Broken Trust Recap

Welcome back Superman and Lois fans! It's been seven weeks since we last saw the Kent family but Supergirl did a fine job standing in. We are pleased that everyone is safe, happy and healthy on the production of the show. This was one of those times where we got to see the episode early and MY GOODNESS, this show certainly stands out among other Arrowverse shows! Just in the first few minutes of the show Superman saves an entire train from destruction! WOW! We had a clear favorite scene but we'll get to that in due time, here's what stood out to us:

  1. Tag Returns: Desperate for answers, Tag has returned to Smallville breaking out of the government facility he was kept at. Tag's speed is accelerated. His strength is almost to the level of Superman. Jordan can barely handle the blows. He calls in Superman who chases after him but his speed disrupts a train and Superman has to save the locomotive. Lois and Clark try to regroup. Lois encourages Clark to keep a close eye on the boys while she begins to discover what Edge is hiding. He's lined the caves with lead so Superman can't see what's in there.
  2. Morgan Hires Lana: As Edge opens the mine in Smallville, he asks Lana to work for him overseeing the mine. Lois shows up to the mine opening. She is joined by "Marcus" aka Captain Luthor who's also trying to get into the mines, but he wants the Kryptonite in the mine. At the school, Jordan starts to experience super hearing. It's difficult to control and he starts to have heat vision. Jonathan is able to get him to calm down in the bathroom but Jordan and Jonathan keep it a secret from Clark so that Jordan can exact revenge on the bullies in Metropolis via the Football game coming up. Lois has no way of getting into the mines to see what's in there and she turns to Lana and Kyle to see if they'll get her in. They turn her down.
  3. Training: Clark takes Jonathan and Jordan down to the basement to practice Jordan's powers. Clark wants Jordan to learn the difference from engaging his powers and not. Jordan is successful on his second attempt when General Lane calls letting Clark know that Tag was spotted in Metropolis. Clark is concerned with how General Lane is going to capture Tag. During the football game, Jordan's super hearing takes over and Jordan misses a major block. The quarterback is taken out and Jonathan uses the opportunity to lead the team to victory. Jordan uses his powers and knocks down his bully. Clark sees Jordan gloating and forces him to calm down. Meanwhile in Smallville, "Marcus" offers Lois an inspector badge to look into the mine.
  4. Releasing Stress: Tag wants answers and he thinks Jordan might have them. He can't get to Jordan so he captures Sarah and takes her to Metropolis. Jonathan leads the football team to a victory over Metropolis but in the final moments of the game, Jordan has a flare up. Clark sees and rushes to him on the field. He tells Jordan to let it go and his heat vision blasts right into Clark's hand. In the hotel in Metropolis, Clark demands answers for what is going on with Jordan. Now that the game is over, Jonathan lets Clark know what happened. Jordan wants to be good at something but doesn't understand the dangers of his powers. Seeing Tag on the security footage, Lana calls Clark looking for Sarah. Clark hears that Tag is in Metropolis and has Sarah and he goes looking for them.
  5. Battle on Two Fronts: Lois and "Marcus" are in the mine and "Marcus" knows right where to look for the Kryptonite-X. They are interrupted by Morgan's assistant who heat blasts them. They run deeper in the mine. In Metropolis, Superman is getting closer to finding Tag and Sarah as the boys head out to the streets of Metropolis to celebrate the win. Lois and "Marcus" are able to escape after "Marcus" blasts Edge's assistant with some kind of laser blast. In a duel moment in Metropolis, Superman and Jordan are tested. Superman uses his powers to save Tag and Sarah from the DOD and Jordan faces his bully who's come with his football friends. This was our favorite scene from the show. Superman has never looked more intimidating than when he told the DOD agent to stand down. It just goes to show the power that Superman really has and how much of it he actually doesn't use. He was even hit with a Kryptonite weapon that he tore off and incinerated. When tested, Superman held back but Jordan didn't, he took a swing with his powers at his bully. That could have killed the bully but Jonathan reached out to stop him. Jordan shattered Jonathan's wrist with the strike.

In the final wrap up moments of the show, Superman offers to personally help Tag. Superman goes to confront General Lane about his use of force. Clark now knows General Lane has Kryptonite rounds. Jordan calls out for Clark after hurting Jonathan. Lois confronts "Marcus". She knows that he isn't who he says he is but with Jonathan's injury, she heads off to meet with the boys. Lois and Clark lecture Jordan about his powers. Jordan's want to use his powers in revenge got his brother hurt. Clark tells Jordan that as Superman, he has to constantly prove to the world that he would never use his powers to hurt anyone on Earth, a lesson Jordan is starting to understand. Sarah, having seen the video Tag showed her is curious if Jordan does have something more than he says. Jordan has to deny and lie to Sarah. He shares this new burden with Lois who offers ice cream and a shoulder to cry on. Jordan has another hearing incident and Clark rushes him to the Fortress! Until next week! WOW!

Quoting muckle9999:
Good episode to come back with and my favorite moment of the show was when Superman told the solider to stand down. He made him an offer he could not refuse.
The Kent family is the most dysfunctional that I've ever seen on tv. Can they at least get one thing right without screwing it up.

I wouldn't call the Kent's dysfunctional. More like uniquely challenged.

This show is so above what we have come to expect from Arrowverse (Betlantiverse). I would definitely stand behind CWverse if this is how it will look.

Why isn't CW leading with this show on Tuesday. The Flash has been on a downward spiral since Crisis.

WELCOME BACK to S&L. That train scene gave me mad Superman The Movie vibes.

The title Broken Trust can really though apply to things these days, only the writing does not make it so in your face woke like Supergirl, which ultimately in my frank opinion led to its downfall.

Who or what can you trust in this era of big media, big tech, bigger government overreach, and especially COVID?

There are those in this ep that can't be trusted like Edge, Captain Luthor and yes even Kyle who is becoming rather belligerent thanks to him hitting the bottle.

And personally, we've all dealt with broken trust at some point in our lives.

WOW! is right, fantastically Super Duper Awesome to watch, I love when the episodes start off with a big time Superman save, more please.

"Superman has never looked more intimidating than when he told the DOD agent to stand down"

My other highlight from the episode, what a powerhouse performance from Tyler who continues to knock it out of the park each week especially in his Superman scenes.

Lots of tensions and trust issues that lives up to the episode title. A great episode to come back with.
