Heritage Episode 2 Recap

Welcome back Superman and Lois fans! We're sure after last week that you're hungry for more of this show and are curious where it's going to take us! As you may know, The CW reserved the streaming rights to Superman and Lois and they put it on their site to stream the following day. With only one episode and three days later, Superman and Lois became one of the top 5 shows streamed on The CW, and again, that's only with one episode! That's how much people were watching or re-watching the show! Moving ahead, tonight we look to Jordan, the apparent new son with powers! Also Morgan Edge is slated to make an appearance and don't forget the big reveal on The Stranger! Here's what stood out to us:

  1. Moving to Smallville: While last episode the Kent family may have made the choice to move to Smallville, we open with the family actually making the move. There is a cute scene where the boys are helping Clark repair the chimney and they stand in awe as he just flies up to make the repair. Clark and Lois sit the boys down to let Jordan know that he isn't going to go to school with Jonathan because he needs to get his powers under control first.
  2. The Hunt for Kryptonite: Captain Luthor isn't waiting around for round two with Superman. He's hunting Earth Prime for Kryptonite. In Moldova on his Earth, there is a hidden stash of Kryptonite but here there isn't. Back at the farm, Clark and Jordan fly off to The Fortress of Solitude while Lois takes Jonathan to school. At Smallville High, Jonathan finds out that he was purposely not given the football playbook he needs to learn the offense. Jordan and Clark arrive at the Fortress where Jordan begins to learn about Krypton. Lois meets the Cushings at a diner where she is investigating Morgan Edge. Lana invites the Kents to a BBQ. Clark returns with Jordan and is elated that he could connect with his son.
  3. City Counsel Meeting: As General Lane arrives to give Superman an update on The Stranger's activities, Lois takes the boys to a city counsel meeting where Morgan Edge is speaking. General Lane is upset that Clark told the boys who he is. He gets a call that The Stranger is on the move and Clark goes to intercept. Meanwhile, Lois corners Morgan during the meeting but technically Morgan is still Lois' boss. The awkwardness stands in the meeting. In the confrontation with The Stranger, Captain Luthor accuses Clark of destroying his whole planet! Clark gets the upper hand on the Captain but he uses his ship as a bomb to threaten people. Clark does what he always does and goes to save the people.
  4. Lois Has a Scoop: At the farm, Clark and Lois debrief on their situation. The Stranger's appearance couldn't have come at a worse time. Lois is investigating Morgan Edge but because he owns the paper, Clark isn't sure that Edge will let the article be published. At the Fortress, Jor-El runs more tests. Jor-El doesn't think that Jordan will ever be like Kal-El. He isn't even 1/100th as strong as Superman. Jordan is clearly upset by the news. Lana's BBQ turns out to be a much bigger thing than expected. Many families are there. As Clark and Lois survey the party, they agree to stay for an hour, tops. Kyle and Lois have a bit of a scene because Kyle is team Edge and Lois is investigating him.
  5. Department of Defense: The Stranger has arrived at The Department of Defense to challenge them since they found a way to track him. Captain Luthor blasts his way into the command center. He seeks out Sam because he knew Sam from his Earth. They worked together against Kal-El. The more Superman faces Captain Luthor the more success he's having. He defeats the suit this time but Luthor wasn't in there. Clark returns home where he and Lois debrief. Jordan and Jonathan reconnect as Jordan knows that Jonathan sacrificed a lot to be in Smallville. Clark sits the boys down and apologizes for being Superman. He asks for time to figure out a balance to being both. Clark gives Jordan a hypersonic pager so he can call for his dad whenever he needs. Clark and Lois have decided Jordan can go to school now with Jonathan.

In the final wrap up moments, Lois marches into The Daily Planet and quits in front of Morgan Edge and the board. General Lane considers what Captain Luthor said about Kal-El, Clark attends Jonathan's practice and Lois heads to the Smallville Gazette to apply for a job! We are left with a view into what Earth was like on Captain Luthor's Earth and it's terrifying. Superman is dressed in all Black and burns solders alive! Captain Luthor and Sam Lane from that Earth lead an army to try and defeat Kal-El. Captain Luthor notes that Superman of Earth Prime may not be at all like the Kal-El he knows, but his potential to become that dark clad death god still exists and that's why he will still hunt Superman.

Could the twins both have powers but must be together to display their full powers? Or at least, Jordan needs his brother to create some sort of balance? They were together when both incidents occured.

I was thinking something similar, but different. I think Jordan's powers were triggered by the fact Jonathan was in danger and he was able to access his powers to save him.

Yes, that makes a lot of sense. Maybe it's the rush of adrenaline that brought the powers to the surface like Kara in Human for a day...

I would like to see the show be a little brighter, currently it feels too dark (not in it's tone but in it's lighting).

That's the biggest issue I have. Sometimes it crosses the line from muted to murky.

Might just take some getting used to.

Again, the show is so stylistically and thematically different, I'm having trouble seeing this as part of the Arrowverse. Kind of like Black Lightning.

I kind of like the darker stylistic tone because it looks different from the other Arrowverse shows.

I like the change overall, but once in a while I think they go too dark. Maybe they're taking the extra CGI money out of the the lighting budget. :-D

Best thing in the episode was one of those great Superman moments where he saves a city, in this instance stopping Captain Luthor's ship from crashing into the city and flying it way into space to explode and not harm anyone. Truly epic and I hope we get at least 1 of those big time Superman saves each episode.

Another fine performance from Tyler and I thought Elizabeth gave an excellent performance as Lois. I really enjoyed the scenes with just Clark and Lois, nice to see a strong marriage on display.

Could General Lane be General Zod?

It was a great episode... again! Enjoyed every minute of it.

I assume Luthor's hunt for Kryptonite and Ryan's Kryptonite poisoning were meant to link the two shows for the crossover that now isn't happening.

Episode 2 dropped about 25% of its viewers in its new time slot, but still improved in total viewers (1.25M) over The Flash's season premiere (1.04M). A feat rarely seen on CW with a 9 pm show improving on its lead in.

String followup to the pilot. Watch them together and it will feel like a Superman and Lois feature film.

Pilot started with Superman’s backstory while this one ends with Captain Luthor’s backstory. Talk about full circle.

We get to see Superman taking Jordan to the Fortress where we meet AI Jor El, who delivers unpromising results concerning Jordan’s mixed heritage.

I hope we get a balance between Metropolis and Smallville because the last thing we need is a Smallville 2.0

It seems that we are getting Smallville revisited with a twist. I was a fan of Smallville but that lemon has been squeezed dry. I think the twins provide a fresh lemon with all kinds of possible and interesting stories. If it wasn't for the kids there would be no show.

Solid second episode. Not quite as good as the first, but still above most of Arrowverse.

I see they changed the fortress of solitude that we have seen via Supergirl.

I am a bit disappointed Lois is no longer at Daily Planet as that was the Metropolis connection. The local paper seems below her pay grade as they have to pay back the reverse mortgage on the farm as a single income family.

I have never cared by the character Lana. So far, I don't see that changing with this series.

The "Captain Luthor" plot has much potential as does the Jordan "does he have powers" and actual origin story. Is there more to his post-Crisis existence?
